Is Student Membership right for me? 

Student Membership is designed for people preparing for a career in arboriculture or a related area. 

You can apply if you are: 

  • A full-time student 
  • An apprentice 
  • Studying part-time 
  • Completing a recognised course through distance learning 

Your course must be a formal programme of study. Student Membership is available for a maximum of three years and lasts while you remain eligible through your current course or apprenticeship.

Associate Membership

Technician

Gain recognition for your professional development 

Technician Membership recognises established arboricultural knowledge and practical professional development. 

Successful applicants can use the post-nominals TechArborA and the Technician Member logo.

Best suited to: Developing and established arboricultural professionals 
Entry requirements: An accepted Level 3 qualification or evidence through the alternative route 
Post-nominals: TechArborA 
Annual CPD requirement: 10 hours of arboricultural CPD 
Membership type: Individual qualified grade 

Is Technician Membership right for me? 

Technician Membership is designed for people who have built a recognised level of arboricultural knowledge through qualifications, practical experience and continuing development. 

Members may work in areas including: 

  • Tree contracting 

  • Consultancy 

  • Local government 

  • Tree management 

  • Education and training 

  • Research 

  • Utility arboriculture 

  • Related environmental professions 

The grade provides individual professional recognition and demonstrates your commitment to competence, ethical practice and ongoing development. 

Professional recognition 

As a Technician member, you can: 

  • Use TechArborA after your name 

  • Use the Technician Member logo in accordance with the logo guidelines* 

  • Demonstrate achievement of a recognised professional membership grade 

  • Show your commitment to continuing professional development 

  • Connect your work with the standards and values of the Arboricultural Association 

*The member logo represents your individual membership grade. It does not indicate that a business is an ARB Approved Contractor or that an individual is an AA Registered Consultant.

Technician Membership

Professional

Demonstrate advanced arboricultural knowledge and experience 

Professional Membership recognises people who have achieved at least an RQF Level 5 qualification or higher in Arboriculture or a related discipline, operating with an advanced level of arboricultural knowledge, responsibility and professional judgement. 

Successful applicants can use the post-nominals MArborA and the Professional Member logo.

Best suited to: Experienced arboricultural professionals working at an advanced or senior level 
Entry requirements: Qualification and experience route, or assessed portfolio route 
Post-nominals: MArborA 
Annual CPD requirement: 13 hours of arboricultural CPD 
Membership type: Individual qualified grade 

Is Professional Membership right for me? 

Professional Membership is intended for experienced people who apply advanced arboricultural knowledge in their work. 

Professional members work across contracting, consultancy, tree management, local government, policy, education, research and other areas of arboriculture. 

The grade demonstrates: 

  • Advanced professional knowledge 

  • Relevant industry experience 

  • Responsibility and professional judgement 

  • Commitment to ethical conduct 

  • Ongoing professional development 

Recognition of your professional standing 

Professional Membership enables you to: 

  • Use MArborA after your name 

  • Use the Professional Member logo in accordance with the logo guidelines 

  • Demonstrate that you meet the requirements of a senior qualified membership grade 

  • Strengthen your professional profile with clients, colleagues and employers 

  • Work towards Fellowship as your contribution and experience develop 

Eligible Professional members with a strong environmental focus may also be able to apply for Chartered Environmentalist registration through the Association.

Professional Membership

Fellow

Recognition of an outstanding contribution to arboriculture 

Fellowship is the Arboricultural Association’s highest membership grade. 

It recognises individuals who combine substantial knowledge and experience with leadership, service and a significant contribution to arboriculture. 

Successful applicants can use the post-nominals FArborA and the Fellow Member logo. 

Best suited to: Experienced Professional members who have made a significant wider contribution to arboriculture 
Entry requirements: At least five consecutive years as a Professional member, plus the Fellowship criteria 
Post-nominals: FArborA 
Annual CPD requirement: 20 hours of arboricultural CPD 
Membership type: Individual qualified grade 

What does Fellowship recognise? 

Fellowship is not based on job title, length of service or technical knowledge alone. 

It recognises people who exemplify the Association’s values and have made a meaningful contribution beyond the normal expectations of their role. 

Fellows may work in: 

  • Contracting 

  • Consultancy 

  • Local or central government 

  • Education and training 

  • Science and research 

  • Policy 

  • Business leadership 

  • Professional or voluntary service 

They share a commitment to advancing arboriculture, supporting others and using their experience for the wider benefit of the profession.
