Student Membership is designed for people preparing for a career in arboriculture or a related area.

Your course must be a formal programme of study. Student Membership is available for a maximum of three years and lasts while you remain eligible through your current course or apprenticeship.

Eligibility
You will need to provide evidence confirming that you are currently enrolled on an eligible course or apprenticeship.
There is no formal CPD requirement at this grade, although we encourage you to begin recording your learning and development. Building this habit early can support future applications for qualified membership grades.
All members are expected to follow the Arboricultural Association’s Code of Ethics and Conduct.
Where can Student Membership take me?
Student Membership does not count directly towards progression through the qualified grades, but it gives you access to knowledge, support and professional networks that can help you progress.
When your studies end, the most suitable next grade may be:
- Foundation Membership if you want to remain connected at an accessible entry level
- Associate Membership if you are working in arboriculture and want a fuller package of professional-development benefits
- Technician Membership if you hold an accepted Level 3 qualification or can demonstrate equivalent knowledge and experience
