Overview

March 2022 - Present: Director of MDJAC Ltd Having gained experience and in light of increasing requests to carry out work privately, I established MDJAC Ltd and began trading in February 2022, alongside my post as Senior Arboriculturist at ACD Environmental Ltd. From March 2022 the company has experienced significant growth in terms of the number of instructions. The future aims of the company are to remain small, but with the potential to work closely with self-employed sub-contractors for data collection and similar processes. August 2021 - March 2022: Senior Arboriculturist, ACD Environmental Ltd I moved to ACD Environmental Ltd as I had taken County Tree Surgeons Ltd as far as I could in relation to developing the consultancy side of the business. This was largely due to a reluctance to fully commit to investing in the consultancy area from senior management, which restricted my ability to produce high-quality work consistently. Additionally, I was keen to work in a multi-disciplinary practice where I would have direct connections to Ecology and Landscape Architecture professionals, which has assisted me in my knowledge of the wider environmental disciplines. During my time with ACD, I was responsible for instructions from start to finish, including fieldwork, data analysis, and report production. I also played an active role in developing the less-experienced staff regarding BS5837 and provided fee estimates to prospective clients. January 2019 - August 2021: Arboricultural Consultant, County Tree Surgeons Ltd Having gained significant experience under the guidance of two Arb Association Registered Consultants at the time (Simon Jones and Mark Mackworth-Praed), and from the now AARC Frank Spooner while as , I was ready for a new challenge.I was approached by County Tree Surgeons to return in a senior role to develop the consultancy side of the business and to deal with BS5837-related enquiries as they did not have anyone with sufficient experience for this role. I was keen to test myself with a higher degree of autonomy and so accepted the position. During my time with the company, I successfully implemented software and hardware solutions to deal with data collection, developed a series of templates for tree survey schedules, AutoCAD drawings and reports, and had a high degree of success with projects seeking planning consent. Eventually, my ambition exceeded that of the company and I sought opportunities elsewhere. March 2014 - December 2018: Arboricultural Consultant, Simon Jones Associates Ltd SJAtrees was my first professional position, transitioning from my previous position as Foreman at County Tree Surgeons. I joined as a Surveyor/Technician, and was promoted to Consultant within a couple of years. I enjoyed the role and enrolled on the FdSc and subsequently, the BSc Hons at Myerscough to help progress my career. During my time I worked on many development and risk-management projects across the south-east of England, London and Northern Ireland. Of particular interest was a project at a site in Kent where I monitored symptoms of Acute Oak Decline in young and semi-mature trees planted as part of a landscaping scheme.
